Cory Metrick 🇺🇲

Hailing from Rutherford New Jersey, at 15 years old Cory Metrick played his very first professional gig on the New York City club circuit with his very first band Solid Goold at New York’s legendary Fatcat Jazz Club, featuring one of his all time musical idols Ned Goold on sax. He would eventually get hired there for over five years as a live sound engineer, where he gained life altering nightly exposure to world class heavyweight musicians. This was where he was essentially gifted the musical education most college kids could only dream of and he was able to keep that going with the types of players who would frequent all the other renowned venues he would later work at such as BB Kings, Highline Ballroom, The Iridium, The Django, Lehigh University and Birdland.

During that period, it was one of his greatest pleasures in life so far to have crossed paths with a who’s who of the worlds greatest drummers like Charles Goold, Jason Brown, Billy Kaye, Ralph Peterson, Lawrence Leathers, Anthony Pinciotti, Kush Abadey, Mike Clark, Anwar Marshall, Ari Hoenig, Ludwig Afonso, Rodney Green, McClenty Hunter, Brandon Lee Lewis, Darrell Green, Eric McPherson, Nasheet Waits, Rudy Royston, Francisco Mela, Marvin Bugalu Smith, Jonathon Blake, Luisito and Roberto Quintero, Pedrito Martinez, Manny Marquez, Keisel Jimenez, Marcos Lopez, Francis Benitez, Keith Rosello, Samuel Torres, Yusnier Bustamante, Pablo Bencid, Daniel Prim, Savannah Harris, Kim Thompson, Joe Farnsworth, Jason Tiemann, Gerry Gibbs, Ofri Nehemya, Jared Spears, Michael Piolet, Kweku Sumbry, Jongkuk Kim, Jimmy Macbride, Joe Dyson, Diego Ramirez, Jonathan Barber, Alon Benjamini, Dennis Chambers, Questlove and countless others.

All of those many memorable nights of master studies from point blank range gave him an infinitely deeper foundational understanding of the drumming tradition and “the sound”. He later found himself working as a stagehand for arena and theatre tours, supporting productions that include Ringo’s All Starr Band, Meshuggah, Wu Tang Clan, Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Bill Burr, Rick Astley, Lil Wayne, Nas, Jethro Tull, Disney On Ice, The Book Of Mormon, Blue Man Group, Stomp, Korn and Green Day to name a few. As an educator he has taught all over New Jersey both privately and at nearly every household name music education program platform you can think of. His unconventionally disarming approach has positively impacted the lives of countless students who he continues to serve as a drum guru, a worthy spirit guide, life coach, mentor and bio hacking expert for those who really struggle with grasping the most esoteric aspects of musical technique.

Today, Cory performs nationwide with a wide range of eclectic bands and singer-songwriters alike across many genres, particularly with his band of over 20 years Solid Goold who have been featured in New York’s Deli Magazine, was once banned from the UK while on tour and are soon to release their third record this year. Perhaps most notably he has performed hip hop gigs with The Buckwheat Groats at UCB Theatre, played massive festivals with jam bands like John Welton & The Awakening, toured in Ethiopia with Zewdy Awalom, won the Grassroots Music Festival battle of the bands playing the blues with Ben “The Dell Dude Curtis” and most recently recorded a country record with Nick Dunbar & Sad Cowboy. On top of all this he continues to frequently perform for corporate and wedding events as well, continuing to build his reputation as a versatile and experienced musician, a highly enthusiastic music educator, a sometimes humorous content creator and a battle tested live sound engineer. While there is still much he hopes to accomplish in the field, he has had his work shared online by some of his greatest inspirations like Gary Novak and Aaron Sterling which has helped encourage him to not lose sight of his path.
