Wayne Matthews Jr. is a man of Trini descent bred from the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Known as WavesByWayne in creative circles, he is a Music Wavologist by trade. This fresh term is the shorthand to describe all of the hats he wears regularly. The longhand is Wayne’s been trusted to be someone’s drummer, keyboard player, producer, musical director, drum technician, playback engineer, and arranger both musically and vocally.

So far in his career, he’s worked with names such as Summer Walker, Tatiana Tate, American Idol Season 22’s Roman Collins, Aneesa Strings, Ambre’, Pell, Braxton Cook, and the Legendary Miki Howard.

While the hat collection can get excessive, he’s gained the respect of his peers not only by his work, but by his character. He always encourages anyone in his sights to always do right by the Gift. One main thing he quotes is, “My hope is that everyone goes through a small period of being misunderstood, so they can come to find the light within themselves.”
